Palm Sized Power Beam

One of the smallest, strongest LED lanterns.

Measuring three inches across and one inch deep it’s surprisingly small. Then you turn it on… and holy cow this thing is bright! At least that was my first impression. The high setting you will get about 3 to 4 hours of strong light you can read by. Cycling through the power settings, the medium and low modes also throw a decent amount of light with significantly longer life (8 to 12 hours). The low glare shade does a decent job of dispersing the light so you aren’t seeing spots when it’s sitting on the table next to you.

This quick video shows you all of the power settings of the Halo 180.

No Batteries Required

Recharges quickly so it’s ready to go.

The green and red indicator lights tell you if the Halo 180 is dead or fully charged. It comes with a mini USB cable so you can charge it just about anywhere. I plugged it into my laptop and it took about 4 hours to fully charge, use a wall outlet and it takes about half that time. Match it up with a portable solar panel, like the Goal Zero Nomad Series for off the grid adventure.

Compared to other LED camp lights the battery life of the Halo 180 isn’t all that great. On high it burns for about 3 or 4 hours which, given how small it is, probably isn’t too bad. Having said that it still does a pretty good job and what it lacks in light, it makes up with the money you will save not having to buy batteries.

Great Price

The Supernova Halo 180 is one of the best values you will find.

Priced at under $25 it’s tough to find a better value. The Supernova Halo 180 was the cheapest lantern on our Best LED Camp Lights Under $30 and the most powerful with 180 lumens. At this price you can buy several of them without breaking the bank. Hang them around the campsite, tent, or in the house when the power goes out.

What isn’t so great about the Supernova Halo 180?

Flimsy Hook

The retractable hook/carabiner folds flat but isn’t heavy duty.

The retractable hook is versatile and folds down so the light sits flat, but the plastic is thin and feels like it could break off easily. I can see it snapping if you grabbed the light and forgot to unclip it.
